BONUS reminder from my search this morning:
Watch your words!!
Ecclesiastes 10:20 Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird in the sky may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say.

Depth of knowledge and insight => discernment
Depth of knowledge and insight => discernment
starts with love abounding more and more which produces depth of knowledge and insight then discernment. This love must be the love Jesus taught, that inseparable two way love of: love God with your everything and love others like ourselves (or better yet, like He did), but Jesus also taught if we don't abide in His Love we cannot love (or do anything of eternal profit).
Our love must abound (the active receiving of God's love and the pouring out of love back to God and to others), as this love abounds it will compel us to know Him more, and we will/must seek Godly knowledge and Truthful insight which will develop discernment to know (prove and approve) the BEST (Godly eternal best = wisdom).
NASV
And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; having been filled with the fruit of righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:9-11 NASB)
NIV
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:9-11 NIV)
key words:
IN (in knowledge and...)
THAT YOU MAY (conditional outcome - one must come before the other)
CONDITIONAL RESULTS (the order/steps of progress)
A -> B -> C -> D -> E
A abound in love
B increase in Godly knowledge and insight
C discern & approve (a knowing and choosing) what is best
D be pure (sincere) blameless and filled with the righteousness which comes through Jesus Christ
E glorify God
And of course do this over and over and over again
Increasing more and more
:-)
Applying this principle over and over again to every situation and choice - growing in discernment is the fruit of love AND an essential component of godliness that Glorifies God.
